Rooted: How I’m Finding My Way Back to a Grounded, Cozy Life
There’s something about this season that pulls me back to myself.
Maybe it’s the way the world slows down just a tiny bit. Every shade of brown feels like home — espresso, warm latte, toasted oat. The colors of leaves, sticks, and all the little treasures my toddler hands me on our walks evoke this feeling.
This year, I kept coming back to one word: Rooted.
Not perfect. Not polished. Just grounded. Connected. Present.
And somehow, everything in my life started moving in that direction without me forcing it.
1. Clearing Space to Feel Connected
It started with the basement.
I didn’t expect anything deep to happen — I was just trying to get the chaos under control. But the more I organized, the more air I felt in my own body.
The kids’ toys are finally in bins — counting bin, music bin, first words bin, cars, puzzles, sensory play.
Everything has a place.
Everything has a rhythm.
We donated toys and clothes and even unopened formula someone else could use.
It felt like shedding old layers.
Like making space for something new.
2. Shifting the Home to Match the Season
I cleaned the bay window. I wanted to decorate it for Christmas. This meant rearranging half the house. I needed to move plants and make room for magic.
Now that window feels like a little stage of joy.
Lights, nutcrackers, and trinkets have survived a decade. They are tiny pieces of my childhood. These are tiny pieces of what I hope my son remembers too.
Every blanket in the house migrated to the living room.
Every movie night feels like a soft nest — the two of us curled up watching Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas or giggling at Donald Duck in a Santa hat.
These are the rooted moments.
Not planned.
Just lived.
3. Walking Outside to Stay Grounded
We’ve been taking so many walks.
He stops to pick up every leaf, every stick, every acorn.
He studies them like they’re rare gems.
It reminds me to slow down.
To pay attention.
To let myself be surprised by simple things again.
We made crowns out of leaves and sticks — messy, lopsided, perfect.
I didn’t realize until later how symbolic it was:
crowns from the earth, worn by the people I love most.
4. Choosing Warmth on Purpose
I’ve been wearing so much brown lately — honey brown, warm caramel, cocoa, the whole earthy palette.
Not because it’s a trend, but because it feels like me.
It feels like being rooted in my body again.
Grounded, warm, steady.
And yes… the brown sugar shaken espresso from Dunkin is absolutely part of the ritual.
A tiny moment of sweetness, warmth, and “I’m still here.”
5. Caring for Myself by Returning to My Own Roots
Starting this blog has been a quiet act of self-care.
Not the Instagram version.
The real version is when you are finally honest with yourself. You acknowledge what you love, what you want to create, and what you want to hold close.
Writing, curating, creating beauty in small corners of my life.
Finding my voice again.
Letting myself build something new without rushing it or explaining it.
Every post, every pin, every photo feels like stitching myself back into my own story.
This is my season of planting deeper, quieter roots.
